West High Baseball Sweeps Bettendorf to Open the Season

Class 4A second-ranked West High opened the season with an impressive doubleheader sweep of Bettendorf on Tuesday in Bettendorf.

West High hammered out 15 hits in an 11-3 win in the opener and Braden Houston and Clay Warren combined for a two-hit shutout in the nightcap as the Trojans improved to 2-0.

Connor McCaffery earned the win in the opener, allowing one hit and one unearned run in four innings.

McCaffery joined Logan Sims and Izaya Ono-Fullard with three hits in game one as West High pounder 15 hits.

Sims and Ono-Fullard each scored three runs while Ono-Fullard and McCaffery drove in two runs.

Houston was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs and Lucas Karwal went 2-for-3.

In game two Houston allowed just two hits in six innings, striking out two to earn the win. Warren worked a hitless seventh inning to secure the victory.

Nate Disterhoft had a double and three RBI to lead West High while Sims was 1-for-2 and scored two runs and Jake Peterson had a hit and scored a run.

Alex Granner had a double for West High.
