Ninth-inning Sacrifice Fly by Kies Keeps Regina Unbeaten

Regina need a few extra innings to do it but the Regals kept their unbeaten start to the season alive with a 3-2 nine-inning win over Mount Pleasant on Wednesday.

A Jayden Kies sacrifice fly plated pinch runner Joey Molony with the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth as Regina improved to 3-0 on the season.

Kies drove in two runs and Trent Hoogerwerf, Ryne Schooley and Blake Berns all had two hits for Regina.

Schooley worked five scoreless innings, striking out 11 but settled for a no-decision.

Freshman Masen Miller earned the win, striking out five and walking one in 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief.

Mount Pleasant took a 2-1 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning but Regina tied the score on an RBI single by Kies in the bottom of the inning.

The Regals got the game-winner in the ninth.

Nick Brandt led off the inning with a walk and Molony replaced him and advanced to second on an Evan Suchomel sacrifice bunt.

After moving to third on a wild pitch, Molony scored on the sacrifice fly by Kies.

Suchomel and Hoogerwerf each scored runs for Regina while Mitch Gahan drove in a run for the Regals.
