Berns Homers Twice To Help Regina Down Highland in Top-10 Matchup

Regina had eight hits on Wednesday but the Regals made the most of all of them.

Blake Berns had a pair of two-run home runs and Mitch Gahan added a three-run blast to lift Class 2A No. 10 Regina to a 12-6 non-conference win over 1A fifth-ranked Highland.

Regina improved to 5-2 on the season while Highland (5-1) had a five-game winning streak snapped with the loss.

Berns had two-run homers in his first two at bats in the first and third innings as Regina scored all 12 of its runs in the first four innings.

Gahan launched a three-run shot in the fourth that put Regina up 12-6.

Berns finished 2-for-3 with four RBI while Gahan went 2-for-4 with three RBI to lead Regina.

Trent Hoogerwerf had a hit, an RBI and scored three runs while Jayden Kies had a double, an RBI and scored a run.

Kies started and allowed five runs in two innings for Regina while Hunter Liebermann allowed one run on two hits in five innings of relief.
