West High Top-Ranked in Boys Basketball AP Poll

Defending state champion West High opens the season in a familiar spot atop Class 4A.

West High (3-0) was ranked No. 1 in Class 4A in the first Associated Press boys basketball poll of the season released on Monday.

The Trojans are in front of Johnston and Sioux City East who are tied for second while Des Moines North is fourth and Waukee is fifth.

West High is one of four Mississippi Valley Conference squads in the initial 4A poll as Dubuque Senior is sixth and Cedar Rapids Prairie and Linn-Mar are tied for ninth.

Other top-ranked teams include Cedar Rapids Xavier (3A), Sioux Center (2A) and North Linn (1A).
