Gordon Named Liberty High Head Football Coach

The first football coach in Liberty High history will now be the first varsity coach in program history.

Jeff Gordon, who coached the Liberty High freshman team in 2016 and the Lightning sophomore squad last fall was announced as the first varsity coach in program history on Sunday.

A West High graduate, Gordon spent time as an assistant coach at City High and Cedar Rapids Prairie before coaching the freshman and sophomore teams at Liberty High the past two seasons.

Liberty High will compete in Class 3A this fall in its first season of varsity competition.

The Lightning will compete in Class 3A District 5 along with Davenport Assumption, Central DeWitt, Clear Creek Amana, Clinton and North Scott.
