Game of the Week

5A No. 3 West High at 5A No. 13 Cedar Rapids Prairie

West High got back on track following two straight with a win over Waterloo East last Friday.

The Women of Troy will try to go into the holiday break on a high note but face a pair of tricky tests in their final week of action in 2017 beginning with a road test at No. 13 Prairie on Tuesday.

Prairie has been tested early with losses to 5A top-ranked City High and No. 2 Cedar Falls and 4A No. 1 Marion.

The Hawks have three players scoring in double figures led by 5-foot-8 sophomore Mallory McDermott at 17.1 per game.

Other Games to Watch

Regina at Cascade: Regina closes out the calendar year with a top-10 showdown at No. 8 Cascade on Tuesday.

Clear Creek Amana at Williamsburg: The Clippers will try to take a three-game winning streak into the new year when they travel to WAMAC West division neighbor Williamsburg.

Mid-Prairie at West Branch: The Bears close their pre-holiday schedule with two games in 24 hours the second coming at home against RVC south division rival and 6-1 Mid-Prairie.

Player to Watch

Addie Rath, Sr., Mid-Prairie

One of the top players in the River Valley Conference for the past several seasons Rath is having the best year of her career as a senior.

The 5-foot-9 forward is averaging 16.7 points, eight rebounds and 3.4 steals per game, leading the Golden Hawks in all three categories.

Rath is shooting better than 54 percent from the field this season.

Who’s Hot

Karsyn Stratton, Soph., Clear Creek Amana

Stratton has been excellent all season but had a couple of her best performances to date in a pair of Clipper wins last week.

The 5-foot-8 guard had 23 points and 13 rebounds in a win over Vinton-Shellsburg on Tuesday and had 28 points in a win at South Tama on Friday.

Stratton already has five games with 20 or more points and is averaging 22.6 points per game on the season.
