A three-time all-state selection City High senior Ashley Joens has been considered one of the top players in Iowa for several years.

Following an impressive start to her final prep season Joens is earning recognition as one of the best in the nation.

Joens was named to the Naismith Trophy High School watch list on Thursday, an award that honors the nation’s top high school player.

The City High standout is one of 25 players from around the country named to the midseason watch list for the Girls High School Player of the Year award that is announced in March.

A three-time first-team all-state and Mississippi Valley Conference divisional player of the year selection, Joens is putting an exclamation point on an already stellar prep career with a remarkable senior season.

The Iowa State recruit leads the state in scoring at 29.4 points per game while averaging a double-double with 11.1 rebounds per contest.

A 6-foot guard, Joens has scored at least 21 points in every game this season while helping top-ranked City High to a 12-0 record.

Joens has scored more than 30 points four times this season, including a school-record 44 last month and has nine double-doubles on the year including six straight.

Ranked as the No. 19 overall prospect in the Class of 2018 by ESPN Hoop Gurlz, Joens is shooting 64 percent from the field this season including a stagger 70 percent from 3-point range.

She adds 3.4 steals, 2.6 assists and 2.2 blocks per game.

The Naismith All-American teams will be revealed along with the Player of the Year in March.
