Koenig, Lindsey Headline Area Mississippi Valley Conference All-Division Selections

City High secured its first trip to the state tournament since 2001 on Tuesday with a 4-2 win over Mississippi Valley Conference rival Linn-Mar.

The good continued to roll in for the Little Hawks on Wednesday.

City High had five players earn first or second team honors when the MVC announced its all-division selections on Wednesday.

Freshman Ayana Lindsey and Carey Koenig were both named to the Valley Division first team while freshman Ella Cook and sophomores Sydney Fellows and Keli Potter were all second-team selections for the Little Hawks.

West High had three players named to the first or second team led by senior shortstop Brooke Goodman who was a first-team pick in the Mississippi Division.

Lindsey and Koenig headlined the City High all-division selections after leading the Little Hawks to a 24-18 record.

Lindsey was a first-team pick as an infield after batting .374 and leading City High in runs (53), walks (25) and stolen bases (33) and also posted a 12-10 record and 2.41 ERA in the pitching circle.

Koenig was a first-team utility pick after rotating between catcher and third base for the Little Hawks.

Koenig hit .358 with a team-high, 12 doubles, eight home runs, 53 RBI and .683 slugging percentage and also scored 41 runs and walked 24 times.

Cook was a second team selection as an infielder after hitting .329 with 30 RBI while Potter was a second-team utility selection after slugging seven home runs and driving in 40 runs while leading City High with a .384 average.

Fellows hit six home runs and drove in 40 runs while batting .331 on her way to being named a second-team selection as an outfielder.

Juniors Brianna Bentler and Alexa Fredericks were both honorable mention picks for City High.

Goodman earned first-team honors as an infielder for West High averaging hitting .317 as a senior.

The shortstop had three home runs and 19 RBI for West High and scored 18 runs.

Sophomore third baseman Kiahna Hill was a second-team pick as an infielder for West High while freshman Cynthia Hull was a second-team utility selection.

Hill led West High in batting average (.402), runs (28), hits (49), home runs (7), RBI (24) and stolen bases (23).

Hull hit .296 with two home runs and 20 RBI and led the Women of Troy with 23 walks while ranking second on the team with 27 runs.

Senior outfielder Kyra Stoll and sophomore pitcher Eva Burbidge both earned honorable mention status for West High.
