Baseball Roundup: Max Tosses Three-hit Shutout as City High Downs Liberty High in Regular Season Finale

City High used a five-run first inning to down Liberty High 6-0 on Wednesday in the regular season finale for both teams at Mercer Park in Iowa City.

The Little Hawks closed the regular season 22-17 with the win while Liberty High dropped to 10-21 with the loss.

Quenton Max struck out four in a three-hit shutout as City High snapped a three-game losing streak in advance of Friday’s postseason opener against Cedar Rapids Kennedy.

Liam McComas went 2-for-2 with a double and a triple and an RBI while Jacob Dykes doubled, scored a run and drove in two runs to lead City High.

Travis Reyhons, DJ Heck and Zach Kuepker all had a hit and scored a run for City High while Sam Lewers and Tanner Slauson each drove in a run.

Ben Parker went 2-for-3 with an RBI for City High.

Nolan Frey took the loss for Liberty High allowing five runs, two earned, on three hits in 2/3 of an inning.

Cayden Duhaime tossed 4 1/3 innings of strong relief, allowing just three hits while striking out five.

Tyler White went 2-for-3 to lead Liberty High while Same Funke had a double for the Lightning.
