Boys Basketball Roundup: Camanche Hands Regina First Loss

Regina couldn’t hang on to an early lead and dropped its first game of the season on Friday falling to Camanche 60-53 in a River Valley Conference cross-divisional matchup in Iowa City.

The Regals led 17-9 after one quarter but Camanche used a 23-point second quarter to take a one-point halftime lead.

Masen Miller led Regina with 23 points while Bryce Barnett had 12 points and Ashton Cook added nine points and six rebounds.

Miller had two assists and three steals and Barnett had a pair of assists in the loss that dropped Regina to 3-1 on the season and in RVC play.

Camanche improved to 4-0.

Waterloo East Rallies Past Liberty High

Waterloo East scored 25 points in the fourth quarter to erase a five-point deficit on its way to a 63-53 win over Liberty High in a Mississippi Valley Conference contest on Friday in North Liberty.

Senior guard Tyrese Nickelsen had 21 of his game-high 34 points in the second half as Waterloo East improved to 4-0 on the season.

Ethan O’Donnell had 16 points and Isaac Bender had 12 for Liberty High which dropped to 1-1 on the season and 0-1 in MVC play.

Sam Funke had eight points and Andre Brandon added six for the Lightning.

Clippers Drop First Game of the Season to Marion

Clear Creek Amana had four players in double figures but it wasn’t enough in a 77-72 lost to Marion on Friday in a WAMAC Conference cross-divisional matchup in Tiffin.

Tyler Schrepfer had 17 points and Nolan Schwarting added 14 as Clear Creek Amana dropped to 2-1 on the season.

Marion improved to 4-0.

TJ Bollers and Nick O’Connor each had 12 points in the loss.
